Chapter 8 - The Confrontation With The Matriarch

While Daniel was being booked downtown at the federal holding facility, his mother Lorraine was still barricaded inside the guest wing of our suburban estate, utterly oblivious to her son's arrest. She assumed, in her infinite delusion, that this was merely another temporary domestic quarrel that her son would eventually charm his way out of.
She was about to receive a very rude awakening.
At 1:00 p.m. sharp, my town car pulled up to the grand front entrance of the estate. This time, I wasn't alone. Two county eviction bailiffs and four private security officers accompanied me up the stone steps.
I didn't bother knocking. I inserted my master override key into the smart lock, and the heavy oak doors swung open wide.
Lorraine emerged from the formal sitting room, draped in a silk designer bathrobe, holding a porcelain teacup. When she saw me walk in flanked by bailiffs, her face twisted into a mask of pure fury.
'What is the meaning of this trash tracking mud across my imported rugs?!' Lorraine shrieked, slamming her teacup down onto the console table, shattering the porcelain into shards. 'Get these thugs out of my house right this instant, Catherine, or I will have you thrown out on your ear!'
I stepped forward, my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor. I held up an official stamped court document and handed it directly to the lead bailiff.
'Lorraine North, you are formally being served with an immediate eviction notice and a restraining order prohibiting you from approaching any property owned by Vale North Holdings,' I stated, my voice echoing coldly through the grand foyer.
She stared at the paper as if it were written in a foreign language. Her arrogant scoff faltered, replaced by a flicker of genuine panic. 'Eviction? You can't evict me! I am the mother of the CEO of this company! Daniel will—'
'Daniel is currently sitting in a federal holding cell downtown wearing an orange jumpsuit,' I interrupted smoothly, watching the color drain completely from her face. 'He was arrested an hour ago for grand larceny, embezzlement, and federal fraud. His corporate career is over, his assets are frozen, and your lavish lifestyle has officially reached its expiration date.'
Lorraine staggered backward, catching herself against the edge of the mahogany console table. Her mouth opened and closed soundlessly, her eyes wide with sheer horror. 'No... that's impossible... my son is a genius... you're lying! You're fabricating this to destroy our family!'
'Your family built its entire existence on theft, deception, and abuse,' I replied, gesturing to the bailiffs. 'You have precisely thirty minutes to pack your personal belongings into garbage bags. Anything left behind after thirty minutes will be treated as abandoned property and hauled away to the municipal dump.'
'You can't do this to me!' Lorraine screamed, lunging forward in a blind rage with her fingernails clawed toward my face. 'I'll kill you, you ungrateful little witch!'
Before she could take two steps, the four security guards stepped forward, forming an impenetrable wall between us and gently but firmly pinning her arms to her sides.

'Remove her from the premises,' I ordered coldly.
As Lorraine was dragged screaming and kicking out the front doors and down the stone steps into the pouring rain, she cursed my name to the empty neighborhood. I stood by the grand foyer window, watching her designer luggage get tossed onto the wet pavement. The castle they had built on lies had finally crumbled into dust, and I was locking the gates forever.
