Chapter 12 - THE CONFRONTATION IN THE BALLROOM

Upstairs in the grand ballroom, panic was threatening to boil over into an absolute riot. Hundreds of high-society guests were crowded around the closed security shutters, demanding to be let out, while Julian Sterling stood on the elevated stage near the podium, microphone in hand, attempting to maintain control.
"Ladies and gentlemen, please remain calm!" Julian’s voice boomed across the house speakers. "We are experiencing a minor technical glitch with the estate's automated security protocol. The doors will be opened shortly."
Behind the stage, armed private security personnel were assembling, preparing to evacuate Julian via his private helicopter on the rooftop.
Suddenly, the heavy oak double doors leading from the grand kitchen burst wide open.
Sophia and Mia walked out into the center of the illuminated ballroom, side by side. Marcus followed closely behind them, carrying a heavy black briefcase containing the original forensic documents.
The crowd gasped in shock as they noticed the two identical sisters walking together through the room.
"Look!" a woman screamed, pointing. "They're identical!"
"Is that Sophia Montgomery? Who is the other girl?" whispers erupted across the room like a wildfire.
Julian Sterling froze on stage, his face turning pale as paper. "You... how did you get out?!"
Sophia stepped toward the stage, her voice ringing loud and clear above the whispers of the crowd. "The truth always finds a way out, Julian!"
"Guards! Arrest them!" Julian screamed into the microphone, his composure completely shattering. "They are trespassers! Shoot them!"
None of the security guards moved. Standing at the back of the ballroom were six uniformed officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Los Angeles Police Department, led by Senior Prosecutor Elena Ramos.
Prosecutor Ramos stepped forward, raising a badge and a federal warrant. "Stand down, security staff! FBI! Nobody moves!"
Julian gasped, taking a step back toward the rear curtain. "What is the meaning of this? I am Julian Sterling! I control this city!"
"Not anymore, Mr. Sterling," Prosecutor Ramos said coldly. "Ten minutes ago, our federal servers received a massive data dump from inside your private vault. We received the original 2004 *Project Helix* patents, the forensic reports proving post-mortem signature forgery, and audio recordings of Richard Montgomery confessing to the murder of Arthur and Elena Vance."
The entire ballroom went completely silent. Guests turned to look at Julian in absolute disgust and shock.
"That... that evidence is illegal! It’s forged!" Julian stammered, sweat pouring down his forehead. "Ethan! Ethan, where are you?!"
Ethan stumbled out from the side hall, holding an ice pack to his bruised jaw. When he saw the FBI agents surround his father, and when he saw Sophia and Mia standing tall together, Ethan collapsed onto a leather sofa, burying his face in his hands, knowing that his life of privilege was officially over.
Prosecutor Ramos walked up the stage stairs, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from her belt.
"Julian Sterling, you are under arrest for federal corporate fraud, conspiracy to commit murder, and the second-degree murder of Arthur and Elena Vance," Ramos announced sternly.
"You can't do this to me!" Julian screamed as the cold steel handcuffs clicked around his wrists. "I built this city! I own you all!"
As the FBI agents escorted a screaming, hysterical Julian Sterling down the center aisle of the ballroom in handcuffs, the gathered high-society crowd backed away in utter shame.
Julian passed right by Sophia and Mia. He stopped for a split second, glaring at Mia with pure venom.
"You..." Julian hissed. "A worthless maid destroyed everything..."
Mia looked Julian directly in his cold eyes, pulling her mother's silver locket out from under her shirt so it caught the light of the crystal chandeliers.
"My mother told me this locket carried a miracle," Mia said softly, her voice filled with undeniable strength. "She was right. It brought justice."
Julian was shoved forward by the agents, dragged out into the night toward waiting police cruisers with flashing red and blue lights.
Sophia turned to Mia, pulling her twin sister into a tight, warm embrace right in the center of the ballroom. The crowd—moved by the sheer drama and emotional weight of the moment—began to applaud softly, a applause that grew until it filled the entire estate.
