Chapter 18 - THE MASTER SOURCE CODE

An hour later, the sun fully broke through the morning fog, casting bright golden beams through the stained-glass ceiling of the Central Bank’s private vault room.

The heavy steel deposit box #408 was opened by the bank manager, who bowed respectfully before leaving Sophia, Mia, and Marcus alone in the quiet room.

Inside the metal box lay a thick, leather-bound book with worn brass corners: *ARTHUR VANCE - RESEARCH & LABORATORY LOGS (1998-2004)*.

Mia reached out with delicate, reverent fingers, gently lifting her father's journal from the box. She opened the front cover.

On the first page, written in thick, dark ink by their father’s hand, was a message:

*'To my beloved daughters, Sophia and Maya. If you are reading this, it means my time on this earth has ended, but my love for you remains eternal. Within these pages lies Project Helix—not a weapon of control, but a gift of healing to all mankind. Guard it, cherish it, and remember that family is the greatest science of all.'*

Tears dripped softly onto the aged paper as Mia and Sophia read their father's final words together.

"He loved us so much," Sophia whispered, holding Mia’s hand tightly.

"He never stopped fighting for us," Mia agreed softly.

Inside the back cover of the journal was a small, high-density optical disc containing the unencrypted master source code for *Project Helix*.

Marcus stepped forward, looking at the disc with deep emotion. "With this master code, the Vance Foundation can officially launch the global medical diagnostic program. Millions of children suffering from rare genetic diseases will be diagnosed and saved for free."

"Our parents' dream is finally alive," Sophia said, smiling through her tears.

"What about Ethan, Julian, Richard, and Vanderbilt?" Mia asked quietly.

"Federal prosecutors confirmed this morning that all four of them are facing life sentences without the possibility of parole," Marcus reported firmly. "The corporate empires they built on blood and lies are being liquidated by the government to pay restitution to the victims of their crimes."

Sophia pulled her half of the old family photograph from her purse, while Mia opened her silver locket, taking out her half.

Together, in the quiet, peaceful vault room, the two sisters placed the two halves together on the wooden table.

For twenty-two years, the picture had been torn, broken, and separated across two different worlds—one of lonely poverty, one of wealthy lies.

Now, sitting under the warm golden sunlight of a new day, the edges aligned flawlessly, forming one complete, beautiful family once again.

"It's whole," Mia smiled, her heart lighter than it had ever been in her life.

"Just like us," Sophia replied, hugging her sister tight.
