Chapter 8 - THE HEIST PLAN

Inside the warehouse safehouse, the clock on the wall ticked past 3:00 AM. A large blueprinted map of the Sterling Bel-Air estate lay spread across a metal workbench, illuminated by the harsh white glow of an overhead lamp.

Sophia, Mia, and Marcus leaned over the blueprints, finalizing their strategy.

"The annual Sterling Charity Gala is happening in forty-eight hours," Sophia stated, tapping her finger on the grand ballroom section of the map. "Julian hosts hundreds of city officials, judges, and high-profile investors. The entire property will be packed with people, security will be spread thin, and media cameras will be everywhere."

"Which gives us the ultimate cover," Marcus added. "Julian will be too focused on playing the benevolent billionaire philanthropist to notice what's happening in his private wing."

Mia pointed to a narrow corridor near the back kitchen. "This is the staff service entrance. Catering staff undergo a basic badge scan, but during a major event with over fifty extra workers, security barely looks at faces. I still have my official staff ID badge from the catering agency."

"Ethan knows your face now, Mia," Marcus warned gently. "If he spots you inside the house, you won't make it out."

"That's why I'm going in disguised as staff, and Sophia goes in through the front door," Mia countered with confidence.

Sophia frowned. "Mia, Richard cut off my access, and Ethan knows I’m against them. I can’t just walk through the front door."

"You can if you play Ethan like a drum," Mia smiled subtly. "Ethan is arrogant, desperate, and terrified of his father. He thinks you walked out because you were emotional and confused. If you call him tomorrow, apologize, and tell him you want to fix things before the gala... he’ll jump at the chance to bring you back into the fold."

Sophia considered the idea, a dark, calculating expression crossing her features. "You're right. Ethan’s ego is his biggest weakness. He wants to show his father that he has me under control."

"While Sophia keeps Ethan and Julian distracted in the main ballroom," Marcus explained, pointing to a underground section of the blueprint, "Mia uses her staff badge to reach the subterranean wine cellar. Behind the third wine rack on the west wall is the hidden entrance to Julian’s private vault."

"How do we open the safe?" Mia asked. "You said it has biometric security."

Marcus pulled out a small, metallic handheld device that looked like a sleek electronic scanner. "This is a digital frequency bypass tool. It can override standard electronic locks, but it requires a physical keycard or master thumbprint to trigger the final unlock sequence."

"Julian’s thumbprint," Sophia realized. "He keeps a master keycard in his jacket pocket at all times during public events."

"Exactly," Marcus smiled grimly. "Sophia, your job will be to steal that keycard off Julian Sterling without him realizing it, then pass it down to Mia through the dumbwaiter shaft in the kitchen."

"And once I have the keycard," Mia continued, "I open the vault, retrieve our father's original contract and the financial ledgers, and we upload everything directly to the federal prosecutor's secure server."

The plan was highly dangerous, requiring perfect precision and zero mistakes. One slipped word, one suspicious glance, and all three of them would end up in a shallow grave or framed for federal crimes.

"Are you sure you want to do this, Mia?" Sophia asked, turning to her twin sister with deep concern in her eyes. "You spent your whole life trying to live quietly. You don't have to risk everything."

Mia reached out, taking Sophia's hand and holding it firmly. "I spent my whole life not knowing who I was, Sophia. I spent years thinking I was abandoned and alone. Our parents died for that patent, and our mother saved my life. I’m not running anymore."

Sophia felt a tear slip down her cheek, but she wiped it away quickly, replaced by an iron resolve. "Then we finish this together."

The next morning, Sophia stood near a public payphone in downtown Los Angeles. She took a deep breath, composed her voice into a soft, tearful, repentant tone, and dialed Ethan’s private cell phone number.

The phone rang twice before Ethan picked up.

"Sophia?" Ethan’s voice was tense, filled with suspicion and anxiety. "Where the hell are you? My father and Richard are going crazy looking for you!"

"Ethan..." Sophia sobbed gently into the receiver, sounding utterly broken and trembling. "I'm so sorry... I made a terrible mistake..."

On the other end of the line, Ethan let out a long, arrogant sigh of relief. "I knew you’d come to your senses, Soph. Where are you?"

"I was just so overwhelmed yesterday," Sophia whimpered, playing her role flawlessly. "Finding that girl... the stress... I lost my mind. I realized I can't survive without you, Ethan. My father cut me off, and I have nowhere else to turn. Please... can I see you?"

Ethan’s laugh was laced with pure, smug satisfaction. "Of course, baby. I told my father you were just acting emotional. Come back home. The Charity Gala is tomorrow night, and I need my gorgeous future wife by my side."

May you like

"I'll be there," Sophia whispered softly, her eyes hardening like flint as she stared into the mirror of the payphone booth. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
