Chapter 20 - The Light of Forever

One year after the nightmare at Greystone Manor began, the grand estate was bathed in warm, golden autumn sunlight.

The mansion had been completely transformed. The dark oak walls had been repainted in warm cream tones. Sunlit skylights illuminated every corridor. The cold marble pedestal where Emily had once fallen had been removed and replaced with a tranquil indoor garden overflowing with white lilies, soft green ferns, and a trickling stone fountain.

Joyful children's laughter echoed through the high-vaulted foyer.

Five-year-old Lily was running across the polished hardwood floor in a white dress, playing with her golden retriever puppy.

"Slow down, sweetie!" Emily called out with a warm laugh, stepping out of the bright kitchen carrying a tray of iced tea and homemade lemon cookies.

Daniel walked up behind Emily, sliding his arms gently around her waist and resting his chin on her shoulder, watching their daughter play.

"She's so happy, Emily," Daniel whispered, pressing a loving kiss against her temple.

"We all are, Daniel," Emily smiled, turning in his arms to look up into his clear, loving eyes.

Mrs. Higgins walked into the foyer, holding a beautifully decorated birthday cake topped with six pink glowing candles. "Time for cake, little princess!"

Lily cheered, running over to the table as Daniel and Emily sat beside her, holding hands as they sang "Happy Birthday" to their beloved daughter. Lily blew out her candles with a huge smile, her face lit with complete joy and safety.

Later that evening, after Lily was fast asleep in her sunlit bedroom upstairs, Daniel took Emily’s hand and led her out onto the grand second-floor balcony.

The view overlooking the Seneca Valley and the peaceful blue lake below was magnificent under a star-filled evening sky.

Daniel pulled a small velvet box from his pocket and opened it, revealing the sparkling platinum ring. He took Emily's right hand and looked into her eyes with unconditional love.

"Emily Carter," Daniel said softly, his voice full of deep emotion. "You survived the dark to bring light back into my life and our daughter's life. Will you marry me and share forever with me?"

Emily felt tears of happiness fill her eyes as she smiled radiantly. "Yes, Daniel... a thousand times, yes."

Daniel slipped the ring onto her finger, pulling her close into a deep, passionate embrace.

Down in the tranquil garden below, the gentle rustle of leaves in the warm evening breeze echoed softly against the walls of Greystone Manor—the silent witness that had watched their darkest hours now stood as an everlasting monument to truth, love, and ultimate victory.
