Chapter 11 - The Game Begins

The threat from Lord Edward Belmont galvanized the Vance family into immediate action. Unlike Julian, who relied on blunt force and crude lies, Belmont was a billionaire mastermind with deep political connections across Europe and Asia. He operated from a fortress-like estate in the Scottish Highlands, moving financial markets with a single phone call.

Victoria Cross immediately established a crisis war room on the top floor of the Vance Global headquarters in downtown Boston.

"Belmont currently controls thirty-one percent of our voting shares," Victoria explained during an urgent late-night strategy session, pointing to a massive digital screen displaying real-time stock movements. "We hold thirty-eight percent. The remaining thirty-one percent is held by independent institutional investors and small shareholders."

"If Belmont buys just twenty percent more of those floating shares before Friday's board vote, he takes absolute control of the company," Arthur said, rubbing his tired eyes.

"We need to buy those floating shares ourselves," Sarah suggested. "We have the cash reserves."

"Belmont is driving the stock price up artificially," Victoria countered, showing the skyrocketing market valuation. "He's offering fifty percent above market value to every independent shareholder. We can't match his liquid capital without taking on massive, high-interest debt that could cripple the company."

Leo sat at the end of the long conference table, staring intently at a secondary monitor displaying Belmont's global holding companies.

"We don't need to outbuy him," Leo said quietly, drawing everyone's attention.

Arthur looked at his grandson. "What are you thinking, Leo?"

"Belmont is using Aegis Capital as his primary buying vehicle, right?" Leo asked, standing up and walking to the glass whiteboard. "Where is Aegis Capital getting its leverage?"

Victoria checked her files. "They secured a three-billion-dollar line of credit from the Royal Bank of Geneva, backed by Belmont's private asset portfolio."

"Which assets?" Leo pressed, picking up a dry-erase marker. "Belmont's empire looks huge, but ten years ago my mom wrote down a note in her journal. She said Belmont's primary European real estate fund was built on inflated property valuations in Eastern Europe."

Victoria's eyes widened in realization. "Fraudulent collateral... If his collateral in Geneva is overvalued, his credit line is illegal!"

"Exactly," Leo said, drawing a line connecting Aegis Capital to the Swiss bank. "If we prove to the Swiss banking regulators that Belmont's backing assets are fake, the Royal Bank of Geneva will immediately freeze Aegis Capital's three-billion-dollar credit line. Without that credit, his stock purchases will fail instantly, and his buy orders will be voided."

Arthur stared at Leo, stunned by the brilliant tactical thinking coming from an eleven-year-old boy. "Can we get proof of those fake property valuations in time?"

"The original audit reports were archived on a private secure server in London," Sarah said, typing rapidly on her laptop. "It belonged to Anna's old financial consultant... but the server requires a dual-encryption key to access."

"My mother's pendant," Leo whispered, reaching up to pull the silver half-moon pendant from under his collar.

He unclasped the leather strap and examined the back of the small silver moon. There, microscopic numbers were finely engraved into the metal edge: KEY-882-CROSS.

"She carried the key around her neck the entire time," Leo said, tears creeping into his eyes. "She knew this day would come."

Victoria immediately stood up, her face filled with fierce determination. "Sarah, book a private jet to London immediately. Leo, Arthur... we are flying to Europe tonight."

As they prepared to leave the corporate war room, Leo looked out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the sparkling lights of Boston. He knew that thousands of miles away in Scotland, Edward Belmont thought he had already won.

"Get ready, Belmont," Leo muttered under his breath. "We're coming for you.
