Chapter 14 - The Final Stand

The grand ballroom of the Boston Harbor Hotel was packed with over five hundred shareholders, journalists, and financial analysts for the annual Vance Global Enterprises Shareholder Meeting. The atmosphere was charged with electric tension.
At the front of the room stood a massive stage equipped with podiums, microphone systems, and a giant screen displaying live stock ticker updates.
Lord Edward Belmont sat in the front row of the VIP section, dressed in an immaculate dark pinstripe suit, flanked by a team of six bodyguards. Despite the international arrest warrant issued in Switzerland, Belmont's legal team had secured a temporary extradition stay in the United States, allowing him to attend the meeting.
Belmont smiled sinisterly at the crowd, confident that Arthur Vance and his family had perished inside the London vault hours ago.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the interim chairman announced from the podium. "We will now begin the final vote for board control. Aegis Capital currently holds thirty-one percent of floating shares. With no opposing major vote presented by the executive office..."
"I object!" a powerful, booming voice echoed from the back of the grand ballroom.
The heavy double doors swept open.
Arthur Vance walked into the room, tall, regal, and immaculate, flanked by Victoria Cross, Sarah, and eleven-year-old Leo, who walked with absolute confidence beside his grandfather.
The entire ballroom erupted into chaos. Flashbulbs exploded, journalists leaped to their feet, and murmurs surged through the crowd like a wave.
Belmont's jaw dropped. His face turned a terrifying shade of pale, his eyes wide with shock and fury. "Impossible..." he gasped softly.
Arthur walked steadily down the center aisle, holding his head high, ignoring the shouting reporters. He stepped onto the stage and took his place behind the main podium.
"Apologies for the delay, ladies and gentlemen," Arthur spoke clearly into the microphone, his voice echoing powerfully through the speakers. "Traffic from London was rather heavy."
A wave of laughter and cheers broke out from the loyal Vance Global employees in the audience.
Arthur raised his hand for silence. "Before any vote is taken, I have an official declaration to make regarding Aegis Capital."
Arthur gestured toward the giant screen behind him. Instantly, the live stock ticker vanished, replaced by official documents bearing the red seals of the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
"As of two hours ago," Arthur announced, "the United States Department of Justice and the Swiss Banking Commission have officially seized all assets and voting shares held by Aegis Capital due to massive, illegal fraud, forgery, and international racketeering committed by its primary benefactor... Edward Belmont."
Gasps filled the room. Belmont leaped to his feet, shouting frantically, "This is an outrage! This is corporate slander!"
"Sit down, Edward," Victoria Cross stepped up to the second microphone, her voice sharp as a razor. "Your buying power has been completely liquidated. Furthermore, the SEC has ruled that all stock orders placed by Aegis Capital over the past thirty days are null and void, returning those voting rights directly to the Vance Family Trust."
The giant screen updated. The voting tally flashed: VANCE FAMILY TRUST: 69% VOTING CONTROL.
The crowd burst into thunderous applause. Shareholders stood on their chairs, cheering wildly as the hostile takeover collapsed into total ruin.
At the side of the stage, four uniformed FBI agents and two US Marshals stepped forward, surrounding Belmont and his bodyguards.
"Edward Belmont," the lead agent announced, pulling out a set of steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit murder, corporate fraud, and international racketeering."
Belmont glared at Arthur with pure, burning hatred as the handcuffs were slapped around his wrists. Then, his eyes drifted down to eleven-year-old Leo, who stood beside the podium, looking back at him with cool, unwavering composure.
"You..." Belmont hissed, his voice shaking with humiliation. "A street brat... ruined everything I built..."
Leo stepped closer to the edge of the stage, looking down at the fallen billionaire. "My mother cleared her name," Leo said softly, his voice full of quiet authority. "And her children just took back her company. Take him away."

The crowd erupted into another round of deafening applause as Belmont was dragged out of the ballroom in shame, his decades-long reign of corruption finally brought to an end.
