Chapter 15 - Echoes of the Past

With Lord Edward Belmont behind bars and Julian Vance serving his lengthy sentence, the dark storm that had haunted the Vance family for over a decade finally cleared completely.
Vance Global Enterprises experienced unprecedented growth under the combined leadership of Arthur Vance and Victoria Cross. The stock surged to historic highs, driven by public trust in the company's integrity and its renewed commitment to ethical leadership.
Six months after the dramatic shareholder meeting, autumn returned to Boston.
The leaves on the trees surrounding the Vance estate turned vibrant shades of crimson, gold, and orange. Inside the mansion, life had settled into a peaceful, joyful rhythm. Lily was now four years old, a bright, bubbly toddler who loved singing, painting, and chasing the family's new golden retriever puppy across the expansive lawns.
Leo was now twelve. He had grown taller, his posture confident, his eyes bright with intelligence and emotional maturity. He had become an accomplished student and a beloved figure among his peers at school, but his heart remained deeply connected to his family.
On a quiet Sunday morning, Arthur called Leo into his private library. The room was warm, filled with the cozy scent of old leather books and a crackling fireplace.
"Leo," Arthur said warmly, gesturing toward a plush velvet armchair. "Come sit down."
Leo sat across from his grandfather. On the small coffee table between them sat an old, beautifully crafted wooden chest bound in polished brass.
"What's this, Grandpa?" Leo asked.
Arthur looked at the chest with gentle nostalgia. "When your mother was eighteen years old, before she went to university, she and I built a time capsule. We placed her favorite childhood belongings, personal letters, and photographs inside this box, locking it away in the estate vault."
Arthur pulled a small silver key from his pocket and handed it to Leo. "I think it's time you opened it."
Leo took the key, his hands trembling slightly with emotion. He inserted the key into the brass lock and turned it. With a soft click, the heavy lid swung open.
Inside lay a treasure trove of his mother's youth. Beautiful oil paintings she had created, framed photographs of a young Anna laughing in the mansion's gardens, her childhood diaries, and a small silver music box.
Leo reached in and gently picked up a framed photograph. It showed a teenage Anna holding a newborn baby boy in her arms—Leo himself—smiling down at him with pure, radiant love.
Tears welled in Leo's eyes. "She loved me so much..."
"She adored you, Leo," Arthur said softly, his own eyes moist with tears. "Every decision she made, every sacrifice she endured... she did it all to protect you and Lily."
At the bottom of the chest, Leo found a sealed white envelope addressed in his mother's elegant handwriting: To My Beloved Son, Leo.
Leo felt his heart skip a beat. "A letter... for me?"
"She wrote it right before she left the estate ten years ago," Arthur explained gently. "She asked me to keep it safe until you were old enough to understand."
Leo held the letter close to his chest, feeling an overwhelming sense of connection to the mother he had lost.
"Do you want to read it alone?" Arthur asked thoughtfully.
May you like
"No," Leo said, looking up at his grandfather with a warm, genuine smile. "I want us to read it together.
