Chapter 15 - THE NEW HORIZON

Six months later, spring had arrived in full, vibrant bloom. Bright yellow daffodils and deep red tulips filled the front garden beds of the Carter home.
Emily stood on the stage of her school auditorium, wearing a pretty white dress, her red hair tied in a green ribbon. She held her small violin positioned under her chin, her eyes searching the crowded auditorium floor.
In the second row, sitting side-by-side, were Rachel and Nate. Rachel held a video camera, her face glowing with pride, while Nate sat tall and proud, holding a massive bouquet of purple flowers.
Emily caught their eyes and beamed radiant, joyous smile.
She raised her bow and began to play her solo piece—a beautiful, uplifting melody that echoed clearly through the silent auditorium.
Rachel leaned her head softly against Nate's broad shoulder as they watched Emily play. Nate reached down, gently taking Rachel's hand in his, their fingers interlacing naturally.
On Nate's pinky finger, Daniel's titanium wedding ring glinted softly in the warm auditorium lights.

Daniel was gone, but his love had not perished. It lived on in the sweet music of his daughter's violin. It lived on in the courage of the friend who had carried his spirit back across the ocean. It lived on in the resilient, unyielding home they had built together from the ashes of tragedy.
