Chapter 13 - The Offshore Accounts Revealed

When the afternoon session of the federal trial resumed, the courtroom was packed to absolute capacity. Security guards stood shoulder-to-shoulder along the mahogany walls, and several high-profile financial journalists scribbled furiously in their notebooks.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Lin approached the podium, standing tall and confident. 'Your Honor, the prosecution calls our expert witness and financial consultant, Dr. Evelyn Thorne.'%
A heavy murmur rolled through the gallery as Evelyn walked down the center aisle, her heels clicking rhythmically against the floor, exuding absolute calm and professional authority. She took the witness stand, took the oath, and sat down smoothly.
Viktor Vance's defense attorney stood up, looking visibly rattled. 'Your Honor, we object to this witness! Her testimony was submitted past the statutory discovery deadline!'%
Judge Sterling glanced over his glasses, unimpressed. 'Overruled, counsel. When an international racketeering syndicate is on trial, federal procedure permits expedited expert testimony regarding newly recovered foreign assets. Proceed, Ms. Lin.'%
Evelyn opened her encrypted laptop, plugging a secure drive into the courtroom's digital evidence system. Instantly, a massive holographic projection lit up above the witness box, displaying a complex, interconnected web of offshore bank accounts, shell companies, and wire transfers spanning the Cayman Islands, Zurich, and the British Virgin Islands.
'For the past five years,' Evelyn began, her voice clear, resonant, and carrying effortlessly across the room, 'Viktor Vance and his corporate associates operated an illegal syndicate designed to siphon capital from legitimate American transport and logistics firms—specifically targeting Sterling Global Logistics.'%
Viktor leaned over toward his defense attorney, his face turning an alarming shade of pale purple. He muttered something fierce, but his lawyer simply shook his head, unable to stem the tide.
'Look at node four-zero-nine on the display,' Evelyn continued, pointing a laser at the holographic web. 'This is the primary holding account where over forty-two million dollars in embezzled funds were funneled. And the primary signatory authorized to withdraw from this account is not Julian Vance. It is Viktor Vance himself, operating under the alias Viktor Von Berg.'%
Gasps echoed through the courtroom. Viktor jumped to his feet, slamming his hands onto the defense table. 'Lies! All of it is fabricated! She's a disgruntled former employee!'%
'Order in the court!' Judge Sterling roared, banging his gavel three times so hard the wooden handle splintered slightly. 'One more outburst from the defense table, Mr. Vance, and I will have you gagged and removed for contempt of court. Sit down!'%

Viktor slowly sank back into his chair, his eyes blazing with murderous hatred toward Evelyn and me. But it was too late for anger. The trap had snapped shut with absolute, irreversible finality.
