Chapter 17 - Liquidating the Empire: The Final Blow

The next morning, sitting alone in the executive conference room, I inserted the flash drive from my father's wall safe into my laptop. A single video file began to play automatically on the screen.

It was a recording of my father, recorded just weeks before his death. He looked frail, but his eyes were sharp, clear, and filled with fierce paternal love.

'My dearest Claire,' my father's voice resonated softly through the speakers. 'If you are watching this, it means Julian and Viktor's conspiracy has fully unraveled, and you have survived the storm. I knew Julian was a fraud from the day he proposed to you, but I let you marry him so he would expose his own greed before the law. I wanted you to learn how to wield power, not just inherit it. You passed every test with absolute brilliance. Now, take Sterling Global Logistics, take our legacy, and build something greater than I ever imagined.'%

Tears welled in my eyes, spilling over my cheeks for the first time since my father's funeral. It wasn't grief anymore; it was an overwhelming sense of closure and vindication.

Marcus Vance walked into the room, holding a stack of freshly printed legal documents. 'The board is waiting downstairs, Claire. They are ready to ratify the complete restructuring of the company under your sole chairmanship. And Viktor's corporate assets have officially been liquidated by the federal government.'%

'What about Julian's personal holdings?' I asked, wiping my tears and hardening my expression once more.

'Every penny has been seized to pay back the embezzled funds and legal restitution. Julian is officially penniless, homeless, and facing maximum sentencing without parole.'%

'And Vanessa?' I asked.

'She packed up her penthouse apartment this morning and skipped town, leaving her newborn baby with her estranged mother in Nevada. She has nothing left either.'%

I leaned back in my chair, looking out the massive glass window at the bright morning sun breaking through the clouds over the city skyline. The trap I had set at my father's funeral was finally complete. Every predator who had tried to tear our family apart had been systematically dismantled by their own arrogance.

'Let's go down to the boardroom, Marcus,' I said, standing up and smoothing down my blazer. 'It's time to introduce a new era.'
