Chapter 13 - The Betrayal of Julian Cross

Inside the federal holding facility, Julian Cross sat across the stainless-steel interrogation table from Special Prosecutor Victoria Vance, his slick composure entirely shattered.

"I want a deal," Julian blurted out, leaning forward eagerly, his expensive silk tie askew. "I have names, I have bank routing numbers, I have proof of every illicit corporate maneuver executed by Mercer Logistics subsidiaries over the last five years!"

Victoria Vance rested her chin on her interlaced fingers, looking at him with clinical amusement. "Mr. Cross, you are already facing twenty counts of wire fraud, securities manipulation, and international money laundering. What makes you think you have anything left to bargain with?"

"Vanessa Mercer!" Julian babbled frantically. "She orchestrated the internal data leaks! She embezzled the funds from her husband's corporate reserves to finance our tech startup! She was the mastermind behind the insider trading ring!"

The heavy steel door of the interrogation room clicked open.

A woman walked in, stepping into the harsh fluorescent light. She wore a tailored charcoal wool coat and a simple silk scarf, her silver hair styled into an elegant chignon.

Julian stopped talking mid-sentence. His jaw went slack as he stared at Eleanor Mercer.

Eleanor walked slowly to the table, standing beside Victoria Vance. She looked down at Julian Cross with the same calm, unyielding gaze she had once used to review corporate balance sheets at Harvard.

"Mr. Cross," Eleanor said smoothly, her voice carrying a quiet authority that commanded the entire room. "You assumed that because I lived in a guest cottage for three years, I was blind to the vultures circling my family's legacy."

Julian swallowed hard, sweat beading on his forehead. "Mrs... Mrs. Mercer. I didn't know—"

"You knew precisely what you were doing," Eleanor interrupted coldly. "You believed greed was stronger than loyalty. You believed that by manipulating my daughter-in-law and exploiting my son's arrogant incompetence, you could dismantle four generations of hard work."

She placed a single document on the table—a complete, unassailable financial audit detailing every single transaction Julian had attempted to conceal in the Cayman Islands.

"Your cooperation is no longer required, Mr. Cross," Eleanor said softly, turning toward the door. "The federal indictment is already sealed. Enjoy your stay in federal prison."
