Chapter 11 - The Fall of the House of Vance

The floor of the Chicago Stock Exchange was an ocean of chaotic noise, shouting traders, and flashing digital ticker boards. It was 9:15 AM on Friday morning—the final trading session of the fiscal quarter.
In the high-frequency trading pit, Julian Vance’s offshore front company, Apex Global Capital, initiated a massive, unprecedented short-sell attack on Vance Logistics stock. Millions of shares were dumped onto the open market within seconds, causing the stock price to plunge from $140 per share to $82 in a matter of minutes.
Watching the panic unfold on television monitors inside his glass executive office overlooking the exchange trading floor, Sen. Harrison Vance—David’s corrupt uncle and the silent political power behind the syndicate—smiled as he sipped his espresso.
"It’s working," Harrison whispered to his legal secretary. "When the stock hits forty dollars, Apex Global will execute the hostile takeover buyout using the automated server sequence Thomas gave us. David’s board will be wiped out before noon."
Inside the server operations center on floor forty of Vance Plaza, Toby sat in a swivel chair, wearing an engineer’s headset. His small fingers flew across two glowing mechanical keyboards simultaneously as code lines cascaded down six monitors.
"Mr. Vance, Apex Global just dropped another two million fake sell orders," Toby reported into his microphone. "They're using the corrupted server sequence Thomas fed them!"
David stood behind the boy, a calm, confident smile on his face. "Execute Protocol Phoenix, Toby. Let them dig their own grave."
Toby slammed his hand onto a massive red entry key.
Instantly, the logic loop built into the corrupted server sequence flipped inverse. Instead of liquidating Vance Logistics shares, the automated program rerouted Apex Global's entire short-sell margin directly into the Vance Children's Clinical Trust as guaranteed collateral.
Down on the trading floor, the massive digital ticker board suddenly flashed bright emerald green. Vance Logistics stock didn't drop to forty dollars—it skyrocketed to $310 per share in a matter of three seconds as a fifty-million-share buyback executed automatically.
"What happened?!" Harrison screamed in his glass office, dropping his espresso cup onto the carpet. "Stop the trade! Cancel the order!"
"We can't, Senator!" his head trader panicked, staring at his frozen computer screen. "The algorithm stripped Apex Global of all cash reserves! Over one hundred and eighty million dollars in offshore syndicate funds were just legally transferred into David Vance's charity trust!"
Harrison backed away from the glass window, his face pale with absolute horror. "No... no, this is impossible!"
The heavy glass door of Harrison’s executive suite swung open. David Vance walked into the room, flanked by six armed agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
"Good morning, Uncle Harrison," David said, his voice ringing with absolute, triumphant coldness. "The stock market just closed on your empire."
Lead FBI Agent Ramirez stepped forward, pulling out a set of steel handcuffs. "Senator Harrison Vance, you are under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, high treason, and murder for hire. You have the right to remain silent."

Harrison stared at David in helpless, blind terror as the steel cuffs snapped around his wrists. "David... please... we are blood! We can make a deal!"
David looked down at his uncle with profound disgust. "My father believed in family, Harrison. But you sold your soul to the highest bidder. Enjoy the rest of your life in a federal cage."
