Chapter 16 - The Mastermind Unmasked

The morning sun broke through the storm clouds over Chicago, casting brilliant light across the grand steps of the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., where a special congressional hearing had been convened.
Inside the grand marble chamber, hundreds of senators, reporters, and citizens sat in breathless silence. At the primary witness table sat David Vance, dressed in a dark blue suit, holding the complete decrypted master drive of Arthur Miller.
Standing beside him was Prosecutor Sarah Jenkins, presenting a multi-layered digital evidence display projecting onto giant screens across the room.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the Senate Committee," Sarah Jenkins announced, her voice resounding with absolute authority. "Today we present undeniable proof of an international syndicate that operated within our highest levels of corporate and political governance for over fifteen years."
She pressed a key, exposing the complete bank transfers connecting Sen. Harrison Vance, Evelyn Vance, and offshore shell accounts used to fund illegal weapons shipping routes across four continents.
The lead Senator on the committee banged his gavel, his face grave. "This committee has reviewed the forensic evidence provided by Mr. David Vance and young Toby Miller. The depth of this corruption is appalling."
In the front row of the defense gallery, Sen. Harrison Vance sat flanked by four federal marshals, his legal team completely silent. He knew there was no defense left; the digital evidence was absolute, immutable, and flawless.
David Vance took the microphone, looking out over the crowded chamber.
"Vance Logistics was founded on the principles of honor, hard work, and service to our workers," David declared firmly. "My father built this enterprise to move the world forward, but greed turned it into a weapon of crime. Today, as managing director and guardian of the primary line, I am announcing the complete dissolution of the corporate holding structure."
Gasps rippled through the gallery of business executives.
"In its place," David continued, turning his gaze toward Toby sitting proudly in the front row, "we are establishing the Miller-Vance Clean Energy Foundation. Fifty percent of all corporate profits will be dedicated permanently to free public healthcare clinics, advanced engineering scholarships, and clean technology research."
The gallery erupted into thunderous, standing applause. Senators stood up to clap, journalists rushed forward to capture the moment, and spectators cheered.
Harrison Vance closed his eyes, weeping silently as marshals led him out of the chamber through the rear security door to begin his forty-year prison sentence.
David stepped down from the witness platform, walking over to Toby. The young boy looked up at him with bright, beaming eyes.

"Did we do good, Uncle David?" Toby asked.
David smiled warmly, wrapping his hand around Toby’s shoulder. "Your dad is looking down on us today, Toby. And he couldn't be prouder."
