Chapter 19 - The Final Reckoning

On a quiet, peaceful Sunday morning, David and Toby drove north along the coastal highway to the peaceful cemetery overlooking Lake Michigan.
The grass was vibrant green, dotted with wild yellow daffodils blooming in the warm spring breeze. They walked hand in hand down the quiet stone path, stopping before two beautiful headstones made of gray granite.
One headstone read: *Arthur Miller — Beloved Father, Genius Engineer, Hero.*
Beside it stood the headstone of David’s sister: *Clara Vance — Loving Mother and Cherished Sister.*
Toby knelt down on the grass, carefully laying a bouquet of fresh white roses against his mother’s headstone and placing his state science fair gold medal beside his father’s name.
"Hi, Dad. Hi, Mom," Toby whispered softly, his eyes filled with warmth and love. "We fixed everything. Vance Logistics is helping kids now, just like you always wanted. And Uncle David takes really good care of me. We're a real family."
David knelt beside the boy, laying his hand over Toby’s shoulder, looking down at the graves of his sister and best friend.
"I promised you I’d protect him, Arthur," David said quietly in his heart. "And I promise you both, he will grow up knowing how much you loved him. His future is bright, safe, and filled with joy."
A soft breeze blew across the lake, rustling the green leaves of the oak trees above, feeling like a warm, comforting embrace from heaven.

Toby stood up, wiping a happy tear from his cheek, taking David’s hand tightly. "Ready to go home, Uncle David?"
David looked down at his nephew, his heart filled with an overwhelming sense of completeness and peace. "Yes, Toby. Let's go home."
