Chapter 14 - The Standoff on Stage

The auditorium erupted into a deafening wall of camera flashes, murmurs, and shouting reporters as Adrian Whitmore and Grace Miller stepped onto the massive elevated stage. Seated in the center of the executive panel on the opposite side of the stage was Marcus Vance, flanked by his remaining two loyal board members and an army of corporate attorneys. Marcus wore an expensive silk tie and a triumphant, wolfish grin that practically screamed victory.
Adrian took his seat at the center podium, with Grace sitting immediately to his right. He adjusted the microphone, and the deep, resonant timbre of his voice instantly silenced the auditorium.
"Good morning, shareholders, members of the press, and esteemed colleagues," Adrian began, his voice cutting through the room like a razor. "Before we open the floor to voting on the emergency restructuring proposals, we have a special presentation regarding corporate malfeasance, embezzlement, and unauthorized hostile maneuvers."
Marcus Vance chuckled loudly into his microphone, leaning forward so the cameras caught every smug angle of his face.
"Save your theatrics, Adrian," Marcus interrupted, his voice booming across the PA system. "The only malfeasance in this company is your reckless decision to appoint an uneducated domestic maid to the position of Executive Director of Internal Ethics without shareholder consent! You’ve violated federal securities laws, breached fiduciary trust, and proved that you are entirely unfit to lead this conglomerate!"
Murmurs rippled through the audience. Flashbulbs blinded the stage.
Adrian didn't flinch. He didn't raise his voice. He simply looked at Marcus with utter pity.
"You talk about qualifications, Marcus," Adrian said quietly. "Let's talk about yours."

Grace pressed a single button on her console. Behind them, the massive LED projection screen lit up. Instead of financial spreadsheets, the screen displayed high-resolution surveillance footage, audio recordings, and legal wire transfer receipts connecting Vance-Sterling Capital directly to the four masked mercenaries arrested at Whitmore Tower the previous night.
The auditorium gasped in unison. Marcus’s triumphant grin vanished instantly, replaced by a mask of pure, unadulterated terror.
