Chapter 12 - Ambush on Highway 9

The assault team assembled at the staging point near the abandoned Westbridge quarry at 4:30 AM.
The team consisted of only four individuals against an army of fifty mercenaries: Caleb Reed, Marcus Hale, Detective Lucas Miller, and Federal Prosecutor Sarah Vance. But they held the one weapon Thorne could not buy: total surprise.
"The freighter *The Northern Star* enters territorial waters in three hours," Sarah explained, checking the GPS tracker on the shipping vessel. "Thorne's private convoy will leave his Ridgeview mansion in forty minutes to secure the port."
"We strike the mansion the moment Thorne departs," Caleb commanded, strapping on a tactical vest and loading non-lethal flashbangs alongside Daniel's service pistol. "Marcus and Miller, you disable the perimeter power grid and surveillance feeds from the generator shed. Sarah, you coordinate the federal warrant transmission the second we secure the server files. I'm going through the upper balcony into Thorne's private study."
"Caleb, if you run into Thorne's chief enforcer, Roman, he won't give you a warning," Miller warned, checking his shotgun. "Roman is a former black-ops operative. He's killed thirty men."
Caleb locked his father's police shield keychain into his inner vest pocket, right over his heart. "My father faced worse odds. Let's move."
Two black sedans cut through the dense morning fog, ascending the winding private drive of Ridgeview Heights.
High above, nestled against the granite cliffs, sat Frank Thorne's fortress—a sprawling modern mansion surrounded by ten-foot steel fences, laser tripwires, and armed patrols.
As the clock struck 5:00 AM, Thorne's heavily armored motorcade roared out of the main gates, heading toward the harbor.
"Power grid going down in three... two... one... now," Marcus's voice crackled over the radio.
Instantly, the entire Ridgeview estate plunged into pitch-black darkness as the main transformer exploded in a shower of blue sparks.
"Move!" Caleb ordered.

Scaling the perimeter wall with a grapnel line, Caleb vanished into the shadows of the lion's den.
