Chapter 27 - The Verdict That Shook the City

Following the ceremony, the reception lawn filled with laughter, celebratory photographs, and joyous reunions.
Evelyn Pendelton walked up to Caleb, looking radiant in a summer dress, holding two glasses of sparkling cider.
"Congratulations, Officer Reed," Evelyn smiled warmly, handing him a glass.
"Thank you, Evelyn," Caleb replied, his eyes softening as he looked at her. "Thank you for being here."
"I wouldn't have missed this for the world," she said gently. "My father wanted me to tell you that his import firm just established a four-year scholarship fund in your father's name for children of fallen first responders."
Caleb's heart swelled with emotion. "Arthur didn't have to do that."
"He wanted to," Evelyn said softly, stepping closer and taking Caleb's hand. "And Caleb... dinner tonight? Just the two of us, to celebrate?"
