Chapter 21 - Crossfire in the Docks

Marcus Hale took the witness stand before a packed courtroom and a jury of fourteen citizens.

For four straight hours, Marcus delivered an unflinching, detailed testimony that laid bare the entire thirty-year history of Frank Thorne's criminal enterprise. He detailed the exact events of October 14th eighteen years prior—how Daniel Reed had cornered him with mercy, how Deputy Chief Sterling had radioed the ambush coordinates, and how Frank Thorne had pulled the trigger that ended an honest officer's life.

Defense attorneys attempted to tear Marcus's credibility to shreds during cross-examination, screaming accusations of perjury and plea-bargain desperation.

But Marcus never raised his voice. He never lost his composure.

He looked directly at Frank Thorne and Walter Vance, answering every single question with absolute precision, corroborated page-by-page by the digital ledgers Caleb had recovered from Ridgeview.

When Marcus stepped down from the witness stand, the courtroom remained in dead, stunned silence.

The defense sat broken, their arguments shattered against the unyielding truth.

Federal Prosecutor Sarah Vance stepped forward to rest the government's case.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury," Sarah said, her voice ringing with powerful moral authority. "Eighteen years ago, Officer Daniel Reed died because he believed that justice mattered more than money or fear. Today, through the courage of his son Caleb and the redemption of a man who chose to stop running, justice is no longer a dream. It is here."
