Chapter 1 - The Storm Inside Carrington Manor

The rain poured in relentless sheets against the towering arched windows of Carrington Manor, but inside, the true tempest was far more lethal. Crystal chandeliers cast a warm, deceptive radiance across the polished marble floors, painting a picture of high society elegance that masked a dark, festering nightmare. To the elite world of Blackwood Bay, Ethan Vance and Olivia Carrington were the golden couple—a union of old money and ruthless ambition. But behind locked heavy mahogany doors, that golden fantasy was painted in crimson.
The massive double entry doors were suddenly shoved open, colliding with the interior wood walls with a deafening boom. Rain fell off the collar of a worn denim jacket as an older man stepped into the grand foyer. His hair was silver, his face weathered by decades of hard physical labor, and his eyes carried the lethal stillness of a predator that had seen every corner of hell. His name was Richard Vance, though the elite standing in the hall only knew him as a blue-collar outcast who had walked away from the family legacy decades ago.
Richard’s gaze scanned the cavernous room, ignoring the gasp of wealthy onlookers who were gathered for the annual Vance-Carrington gala. His heart dropped into a bottomless pit when his eyes landed on the center of the hall.
Lying on the cold marble floor was his daughter, Olivia.
Her silk evening gown was torn at the shoulder, stained with dark grease and fresh blood. A purple bruise was already swelling around her right eye, and a trickle of red ran from the corner of her swollen lips down her throat. She gasped for air, each shallow breath producing a ragged whimper that echoed through the silent mansion.
"Olivia!" Richard screamed, throwing off his wet jacket as he charged forward. He dropped heavily to his knees, his calloused hands trembling violently as he hovered over her broken form. "Oh God, sweetheart. Look at me. Dad’s here. Look at me."
"Dad..." Olivia whispered, her blood-stained teeth flashing as she fought back tears that smeared the blood across her pale cheeks. She weakly raised a bruised hand, reaching out to clutch his sleeve. "Please... please get me out of here..."
Before Richard could slip his arms beneath her to lift her, a shadow fell across them both. A tall young man in a pristine white dress shirt stepped forward, swirling a glass of scotch in his hand. Ethan Vance smiled, a cold, sadistic curl of his lips that showed zero remorse.
"You're making a scene, old man," Ethan sneered, taking a slow sip from his crystal glass. "This is private domestic business. Get the hell out of my house right now."
Richard stood up slowly. The trembling in his hands stopped entirely. His tall frame unfolded, casting a towering shadow over Ethan. For thirty years, Richard had lived a quiet life, hiding his true identity from the world to protect his daughter from the poisonous greed of high society. But standing over his injured child, the beast he had buried long ago roared back to life.
"Get out of your house?" Richard’s voice was disturbingly quiet, vibrating with a force that made the crystal drops on the chandeliers tremble. "You touched my daughter, Ethan."
"She is my wife!" Ethan roared back, his face twisting into an ugly mask of rage as he slammed his drink onto a marble side table. "I own this estate, and I own her! You're nothing! A washed-up mechanic who couldn't even afford her college tuition! You have no power here!"
Ethan reached out aggressively, grabbing Richard by the shoulder to shove him toward the exit. That was his last mistake.
In a single fluid motion, Richard grabbed Ethan’s wrist, twisted it back until the joint popped with a sickening crunch, and slammed a heavy fist directly into Ethan's sternum. Before Ethan could even scream, Richard grabbed him by the throat and drove him backward with terrifying force.
Ethan flew through the air, crashing spine-first onto the massive glass coffee table in the middle of the room. The thick tempered glass exploded into thousands of glittering shards. Ethan let out a strangled shriek as he collapsed into the pile of broken glass, blood immediately soaking through the back of his pristine white shirt.
Silence descended upon the mansion like a heavy shroud. The wealthy guests gasped in horror, backing away toward the walls. Security guards stood paralyzed, terrified by the sheer savagery of the elder man standing before them.
Richard didn't even look down at the groaning man bleeding on the floor. He slowly reached down to his leather belt and unclipped a heavy military-grade walkie-talkie. He clicked the side button and spoke three simple words into the microphone.
"Turn off power."
For one second, nothing happened. Ethan looked up from the glass, coughing blood, spitting spitefully, "You think a blackout stops me? Security! Kill him!"
Then, every light in the mansion flickered once. Twice. And died completely.
The entire Carrington Estate was plunged into pitch darkness. Screams erupted from every corner as high society ladies panicked in the dark. Security cameras clicked off. The high-tech electronic locks on every exit slammed shut, engaged by an override system they didn't know existed.
Outside, the quiet night erupted into the roar of heavy diesel engines. Dozens of blacked-out armored SUVs tore through the front iron gates, crushing the decorative stone pillars as they surrounded the mansion. Armed men in tactical gear poured out, taking positions at every exit.
Inside the dark mansion, Richard picked up his daughter into his arms, holding her close to his chest as if she were a child again. He leaned down toward Ethan, who was groaning in the dark.

"You said this was your house, Ethan," Richard whispered in a dark, icy tone. "You were wrong. I built this empire. And tonight, I'm tearing it down to the ground."
