Chapter 14 - The Collector's Shadow

The word 'Collector' echoed through the bright foyer, instantly casting a chill over the peaceful morning. Richard took the red-stamped folder from Lucas's hands, his face turning into stone as he scanned the complex financial networks detailed within.
"The Collector..." Richard muttered, his brows furrowing. "I've heard that name before. Twenty years ago, when I was building Apex Tactical in South America, there were rumors of an elite syndicate operating out of Singapore that specialized in purchasing ruined corporate empires."
"It's worse than that, Mr. Vance," Lucas explained, pointing to a set of recent wire transfers dated just two weeks ago. "The Collector didn't just fund Victor’s bio-nanite research. The Collector bought up fifty-one percent of the debt bonds issued by Vance Global Logistics before the bankruptcy court could liquidate them."
Victoria Sterling stepped closer, examining the tablet. "That means... legally, whoever this Collector is, they hold a lien over Carrington Global's primary shipping fleet in Singapore and Hong Kong!"
Olivia took a deep breath, refusing to let panic take hold. She had survived a abusive marriage, a poisoning attempt, and a military confrontation on a pier; she was no longer the fragile girl who could be easily intimidated.
"If they hold a lien, then they want a seat at the table," Olivia declared, her voice firm and resolute. "They don't want to destroy Carrington Global. They want to control our deep-sea Pacific trade routes."
"Exactly," Lucas nodded approvingly. "And I just received an encrypted message on my private server an hour ago. The Collector has requested an emergency summit meeting tonight aboard the luxury cruise liner *The Emperor's Grace*, anchored five miles off the coast in international waters."
"International waters," Marcus spat from the doorway, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed. "That means no maritime jurisdiction, no Coast Guard intervention, and total tactical isolation. It's an obvious trap."
"Of course it's a trap," Richard said coldly, handing the folder back to Lucas. "That's why I'm going."
"No, Dad," Olivia interjected immediately, catching her father’s arm. "You're not going alone. And you're not going as a wrecking ball this time. We need to handle this as executives. If we go in with guns blazing on international waters, we risk plunging Carrington Global into an endless legal nightmare that will destroy everything we just rebuilt."
"She's right, Richard," Victoria agreed. "The media is watching Carrington Global very closely right now. Any unsanctioned military action will sink our stock value completely."
Richard looked at his daughter, seeing the fierce intelligence and determination shining in her eyes. He sighed, nodding slowly. "Fine. But Marcus and a team of six Apex operators are coming as our discreet security detail. No negotiations."
"Agreed," Olivia said. She turned to Lucas. "Lucas, you're coming with us. I need your forensic accounting skills on hand to analyze any legal contracts they try to force on us."
"I’d be honored, Olivia," Lucas smiled.
That evening, as twilight painted the sky in shades of deep purple and gold, a sleek white private tender boat carried Olivia, Richard, Lucas, and Marcus across the rolling waves toward the massive, illuminated silhouette of *The Emperor's Grace*.
The ocean liner towered above the water like a floating city of light. But as Olivia stepped onto the grand gangway, she felt the familiar knot of danger tightening in her stomach.
Standing at the top of the stairs to welcome them was a woman dressed in an exquisite red silk kimono, flanked by six imposing bodyguards in traditional dark suits.

"Welcome aboard *The Emperor's Grace*, Miss Carrington," the woman said, bowing smoothly with a enigmatic smile. "My master has been waiting thirty years for this reunion."
