Chapter 16 - The Grandmaster's Debt

The revelation dropped like a thunderbolt inside the Grand Salon. Olivia stared at Grandmaster Chen, her mind connecting the dark dots of a history that had been carefully erased from the official family archives.

"So Victor didn't just ruin my life and kill my mother," Olivia said, her voice filled with quiet realization. "He built the entire Vance-Carrington empire on stolen land and stolen assets from your family."

"Precisely," Chen replied, taking another slow sip of tea. "For thirty years, I watched from Singapore as Victor and Julian turned my clean maritime enterprise into a criminal syndicate of arms dealers and poisoners. I funded Victor’s bio-nanite research not to help him... but to keep my spies inside his inner circle."

"You used my daughter as bait!" Richard roared, taking an aggressive step toward the table. Marcus instantly raised his hand, ready to draw his sidearm.

Chen’s bodyguards immediately raised their suppressed submachine guns, but Chen raised a single hand, ordering his men to stand down.

"I did not order the poisoning, Richard," Chen said calmly, looking Richard directly in the eye. "When I discovered Victor was administering the compound to Olivia, I secretly funded the development of the binary antitoxin formula that Dr. Aris used to save her life. Who do you think leaked the location of the flash drive key to your nephew Lucas?"

Lucas looked up from his tablet, his jaw dropping in shock. "The anonymous encrypted file I received... that was from you?"

"I needed Victor dead or imprisoned," Chen explained, his tone completely pragmatic. "And I needed the Carrington bloodline to prove its strength. If Olivia had been weak, she would have died in that mansion, and I would have seized the company through debt liquidation without a second thought."

"And because she survived?" Richard asked, his hands clenching into tight fists.

Chen stood up slowly, using a polished wooden cane topped with a jade dragon head. He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling glass wall, looking out at the dark ocean waves.

"Because she survived," Chen said, turning back to face Olivia with an expression of deep respect, "she proved she possesses the strength, the intelligence, and the iron will of her mother, Eleanor. She is worthy of leading Carrington Global."

Olivia stepped forward, standing right beside Chen. "Then why hold the debt bonds? Why lure us out to international waters?"

"Because a storm is coming, child," Chen said, his tone growing deathly serious. "Victor may be in a supermax prison, but his real master—the true architect of the international Syndicate—is still at large."

Richard’s face hardened. "I thought Victor was the Chairman!"

Chen laughed, a bitter, hollow sound. "Victor was a mid-level enforcer with a fancy title. The true leader of the Syndicate is a woman who has operated in the high halls of European politics for forty years. A woman known as 'The Red Queen'."

Olivia looked at her father, then back at Chen. "Who is she?"

"She is Baroness Beatrix von Hagen," Chen revealed, his dark eyes flashing with lethal intent. "And she has just ordered a fleet of private mercenary gunboats to surround this ship. They will be here in five minutes."
