Chapter 19 - The New Era

The sun rose over the capital city of Albany, casting golden light across the fifty-acre site of the newly announced Sterling Clean Energy Complex. Hundreds of local workers, engineers, reporters, and state officials stood around a grand outdoor stage decorated with white banners bearing the green and gold logo of Sterling-Vance Enterprises.

Rebecca stood at the podium, wearing a crisp ivory blazer and hard hat, holding a silver shovel beside Julian, Gabriel, and the Governor of New York.

"Today, we break ground not just on a manufacturing plant," Rebecca announced into the microphones, her voice echoing across the wide field to cheers from the crowd, "but on a promise. A promise that high technology can serve human lives, protect our environment, and create high-paying jobs for thousands of families."

The Governor stepped up to speak next. "Under Rebecca Sterling's leadership, this company has demonstrated what ethical capitalism truly looks like. She didn't just save five thousand jobs—she created three thousand more."

The crowd erupted into enthusiastic applause.

As the official groundbreaking ceremony concluded and reporters swarmed around Julian for interviews, Gabriel walked over to Rebecca, handing her a bottle of cold water.

"You looked like a queen up there," Gabriel said with a warm smile, wiping a tiny speck of dust from her cheek.

"I felt like myself," Rebecca corrected softly, leaning into his touch. "For the first time in my life, Gabriel, I am building something that belongs entirely to the future, not the past."

"Speaking of the future," Gabriel said, his tone turning delightfully mysterious, "I have a surprise for you tonight."

Rebecca arched an eyebrow playfully. "Another surprise? You already took me to Martha's Vineyard."

"This one is closer to home," Gabriel whispered leaning close to her ear. "Meet me at the Hudson River Pier at seven o'clock."
