Chapter 11 - The Boardroom Showdown

On the top floor of St. Jude Memorial Hospital, the grand mahogany boardroom was filled with twelve executive board members sitting around a polished oval table. Rain drummed softly against the floor-to-ceiling windows behind them.

At the head of the table sat Arthur Pendelton, the senior board chairman, a wealthy investor in his sixties who had long aligned himself with Julian Sterling’s aggressive commercial strategy.

"Members of the board," Pendelton announced, hitting his gavel against a wooden block. "In the absence of Ms. Clara Vance, and given the urgent reports regarding her emotional instability following her daughter's sudden medical crisis, we will now proceed with the vote to strip her of executive authority and transfer all voting shares to Vice Chairman Julian Sterling."

A few board members whispered among themselves, looking uncomfortable.

"Is this legally sound, Arthur?" asked Victoria Cole, a respected board member who had been loyal to Clara’s father. "Clara only arrived tonight. We haven't even heard her presentation."

"The situation is critical, Victoria," Pendelton insisted coldly. "Our stock value is dropping, and rumors of financial mismanagement are spreading. We need strong, singular leadership. All in favor of revoking Clara Vance’s executive position, raise your hand."

Pendelton raised his hand. Slowly, seven other board members raised theirs, intimidated by Pendelton’s influence.

"The motion is—" Pendelton started.

*BANG!*

The heavy double doors of the boardroom were thrown open so violently that the bronze handles dented the drywall.

Every head in the room snapped toward the entrance.

Clara Vance walked into the room like a goddess of vengeance. Her suit jacket was damp, her hair pulled back sharply, and her eyes burned with unquestionable authority. In her arms, she held Lily, wrapped in a warm blanket. Beside her walked Marcus, carrying a leather briefcase, followed by Captain Thomas, who was forcefully dragging a battered, bloody Julian Sterling by his collar.

Gasps echoed across the room. Several board members stood up from their chairs in shock.

"What is the meaning of this barbarism?!" Pendelton yelled, slamming his gavel down. "Security!"

"Security is currently detaining your accomplices downstairs, Arthur," Clara said, her voice cutting through the room like a razor. She walked to the head of the table, looking down at Pendelton. "And as for this meeting, it is officially adjourned."

Julian collapsed to his knees near the table, clutching his bleeding mouth, wheezing out softly, "Don't... don't listen to her... she's... she's mad..."

"Sit down, Arthur," Clara commanded Pendelton.

Pendelton, trembling with rage, refused to move. "You have no right to barge in here with weapons and assault the Vice Chairman!"

"I have every right," Clara said smoothly. She gestured to Marcus. "Marcus, set up the display."

Marcus stepped forward, plugging his tablet directly into the boardroom's massive presentation projector screen.

Instantly, the wall-sized screen lit up, displaying thousands of lines of financial transactions, medical records, video surveillance feeds, and internal memos.

"What you are looking at," Clara announced to the silent room, "is the systematic corruption of St. Jude Memorial Hospital under Julian Sterling and Arthur Pendelton."
