Chapter 5 - The Video That Broke Sonoma

A murmur of anticipation rippled through the ballroom. Guests smiled, expecting a sweet, nostalgic slideshow of childhood photos, college graduations, and romantic dates in Paris. Audrey sat forward in her chair, her manicured fingers lightly touching her throat. For the first time, a small knot of tension tightened in her chest.

Nathan gestured toward the wall behind the main head table. A giant projection screen descended silently from the recessed ceiling. The room lights dimmed automatically.

'Roll the footage,' Nathan commanded calmly to the technician in the booth.

The screen flickered to life. But it wasn't a baby picture of Nathan. It was high-definition security camera footage, complete with clear, crisp audio. The location timestamp in the corner read: *Apex Dynamics - Executive Suite - 11:42 PM, Three Months Ago.*

A sharp gasp echoed through the room. On the screen, Audrey was seen using a master security keycard to enter Nathan's private office. She walked directly to his terminal, plugged in a high-speed encrypted flash drive, and began copying proprietary AI algorithms—the core intellectual property of Nathan's multi-billion-dollar company.

Audrey turned deathly pale. She half-rose from her seat, her voice cracking. 'Nathan! What... what is this? Turn that off!'

Nobody turned it off.

The footage cut to another clip. Timestamp: *Two Months Ago - The Ritz-Carlton Penthouse.*

The camera was positioned high in the corner of a luxury suite. The door opened, and Robert Hayes stepped inside, carrying a bottle of vintage wine. Seconds later, Audrey entered in a silk robe. The audio was crystal clear.

'Did you get the signature on the merger agreement?' Audrey's voice bounced off the surround-sound speakers of the ballroom.

On screen, Robert pulled her into a deep, passionate embrace before replying, 'Nathan trusts me blindly. He signed the asset transfer documents thinking they were standard tax filings. Once you marry him, your legal status as his wife shields you from personal liability when we liquidate his holding company.'

The entire ballroom went dead silent. The silence was absolute, heavy, and horrifying. Two hundred high-society guests sat frozen in shock.

Robert stood glued to the floor, his face transitioning from pale white to a deep, blotchy red. His glass slipped from his fingers and shattered against the hardwood floor, champagne pooling around his shoes.

Audrey looked around frantically, like a trapped animal. 'This is fake! This is AI! Nathan, someone altered this to ruin us!'

Nathan didn't yell. He didn't rage. He stood in the center of the dance floor, his hands in his pockets, watching the screen as it cut to the final clip: *Just 45 minutes ago - Upstairs Suite, Sonoma Winery.*

The screen displayed Robert and Audrey kissing fiercely in her wedding dress, right before Margaret opened the door.

Nathan turned his gaze to his wife and his father. 'Welcome to the family, Audrey.'
