Chapter 15 - The Vanishing Tech Genius

While the core conspirators—Richard Sterling and Lauren Vance—were behind bars, the financial cleanup of Vance Enterprises was a monumental task. The company's digital infrastructure had been infected with complex corporate spyware planted by Richard's technical team.
To fully secure the firm's assets and restore complete transparency, Agent Maya Miller brought in the Federal Bureau's leading forensic cyber analyst, Dr. Julian Vance (no relation), a legendary tech genius known for dismantling international cyber-crime syndicates.
In the high-tech operations room on the twentieth floor of Vance Enterprises headquarters, Julian sat surrounded by eight high-powered monitors, his fingers flying across a custom mechanical keyboard at dizzying speeds.
"Fascinating," Julian muttered, adjusting his thin-rimmed glasses as Daniel and Maya stepped into the room.
"Find something, Julian?" Maya asked, pulling up a chair.
"Your CFO Richard was ambitious, but he wasn't a computer genius," Julian explained, pointing his pen at a complex stream of green code scrolling down the central monitor. "The forty-seven seconds of deleted video footage from the mansion's server wasn't just erased—it was routed through an automated darknet relay server located in Zurich before being wiped."
Daniel frowned. "Zurich? Why Zurich?"
"Because that's where the master node of Apex Holdings' secondary contingency fund is located," Julian revealed, tapping a key to bring up a digital map. "When Lauren executed the manual wipe on her phone app during the stair incident, the raw video file wasn't permanently destroyed. A temporary cached copy was automatically uploaded to a secure cloud server in Switzerland as a backup measure."
Daniel’s heart skipped a beat. "Wait... you're saying the actual 47 seconds of footage showing Lauren pushing Noah still exists?!"
"It does," Julian smiled, a confident glint in his eyes. "And I'm currently executing a federal court-ordered cyber recovery command to pull that cached file directly down from the Zurich server."
"How long will the download take?" Maya asked, her tactical instincts instantly spiking.
"About fifteen minutes," Julian said. "Once it's downloaded, we'll have irrefutable, crystal-clear 4K visual proof of the exact moment Lauren pushed Noah down the stairs. It will shut down any potential future appeals her legal team might try to file."
Suddenly, the lights in the server room flickered. The cooling fans in the server towers spun down with a high-pitched whine.
"What the hell?" Julian muttered, checking his system status. "Someone is executing a remote denial-of-service attack on our local gateway!"
On the central monitor, a flashing red warning box appeared:
`WARNING: EXTERNAL DECRYPTION BREACH IN PROGRESS`
"They're trying to wipe the Zurich cache before the download finishes!" Julian yelled, his fingers flying across the keys in a desperate battle of code. "Someone outside this building is monitoring this server link!"
Maya pulled out her sidearm, looking around the room. "Daniel, stay back! Julian, can you trace the breach origin?!"
"I'm counter-routing now!" Julian shouted, sweat beads forming on his forehead as he fought the mysterious hacker across the digital ether. "The breach isn't coming from overseas... it's coming from inside this building! Floor 12! The secondary IT maintenance hub!"
Without waiting a second, Maya turned to Daniel. "Call security to lock down Floor 12 exits! I'm going down!"

"I'm coming with you!" Daniel declared, pulling a tactical flashlight from his coat.
Together, they sprinted toward the high-speed service elevator, ready to hunt down the last hidden ghost in the Vance Enterprises system.
