Chapter 22 - The Betrayal at Sunset Ridge

With legal and financial matters fully resolved, excitement began to build across the Vance household for the upcoming wedding of Daniel and Maya.
The wedding was planned for early June, to be held right at Vance Manor on the sweeping front lawn, surrounded by gardens of blooming white roses. Noah was assigned the proud responsibility of being his father's Best Man and the official ring bearer.
"I have a super important job, right Daddy?" Noah asked proudly during breakfast, wearing a tiny black bow tie he refused to take off.
"The most important job in the whole world, buddy," Daniel chuckled, passing him a plate of freshly made pancakes. "If you drop those rings, I might have to hire Agent Miller to track them down!"
"I won't drop them!" Noah laughed happily, pouring maple syrup over his breakfast.
While wedding preparations were in full swing, Maya received an unexpected visitor at her corporate office at Vance Enterprises headquarters.
Director Marcus Thorne from the FBI walked into her office, carrying a leather briefcase.
"Director Thorne," Maya greeted, standing up to welcome her former supervisor. "What brings you to Vance Enterprises?"
"Just checking in on my top former agent," Thorne smiled, sitting down across from her. "And bringing you official news from the Justice Department."
Thorne opened his briefcase, pulling out a framed certificate of distinguished service. "The Director of the FBI and the Attorney General have awarded you the Federal Medal of Valor for your extraordinary undercover work on the Vance Enterprises case."
Maya looked at the golden medal and certificate, deeply moved. "Thank you, Director. But the greatest reward I ever got from that case was my family."
"I know," Thorne smiled warmly. "And I've never seen you happier, Maya. You did a fantastic job. The Crow Syndicate network has been completely dismantled nationwide thanks to the evidence you secured."

Thorne stood up, extending his hand. "Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, Maya. I'll be sitting in the front row."
"Thank you, Marcus," Maya smiled warmly, shaking his hand. "See you in June."
