Chapter 24 - What the Dead Mother Left Behind

Two weeks before the grand wedding, while organizing old family albums in the estate's study, Maya uncovered a small, dusty leather case tucked behind a shelf of old encyclopedias.
Inside was an old analog camcorder tape labeled: *"To Daniel and Noah - Our Future."*
Maya immediately brought the tape to Daniel. They set up an old video player in the living room and called Noah over to sit between them on the couch.
Daniel pressed play with a trembling heart.
The screen flickered to life, showing Eleanor Vance sitting on the sunny veranda of Vance Manor three years ago, wearing a white summer dress, smiling warmly into the camera.
*"Hi Daniel. Hi my sweet little Noah,"* Eleanor's voice echoed softly from the speakers, filled with profound love and maternal tenderness.
Noah gasped softly, clutching Maya's hand as he watched his mother on screen. "Mommy..."
*"If you're watching this video, my love,"* Eleanor continued, her eyes glistening on screen, *"it means something happened to me. I know the dark storm clouds are gathering around our lives right now. I know there are people trying to destroy our family."*
Eleanor smiled sweetly into the camera lens. *"Daniel, my wonderful husband... if I am gone, please do not spend your life drowning in grief. Do not lock your heart away. Build a happy life for our boy. Find love again, Daniel. Find someone who will hold your hand through the storms, someone who will love Noah with all her heart."*
Eleanor leaned closer to the camera, her hand touching the lens as if touching her son's face. *"And Noah, my sweet angel... always remember that Mommy loves you beyond the stars. Be brave, be kind, and listen to your dad. I will always be your guardian angel."*
The video screen faded to black.
Silence filled the living room. Tears ran freely down Daniel's cheeks, while Maya wiped tears from her eyes.
Noah looked up at the black screen, then looked up at Maya and Daniel. He reached out and wrapped his arms tightly around both of them.
"Mommy wanted us to be happy," Noah said softly with wisdom beyond his years. "And we are super happy now."
